The Billerhuder Insel is an artificially created island in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort, which lies between a loop of the Bille and the Bullenhuser Canal.

Billerhuder Insel was created in 1907 with the construction of the Bullenhuser Canal, which shortened the river bend. A triangular island was created. The "garden colony Billerhude" has been at home on the 300,000 square meters since 1921. There are also a couple of water sports clubs on the western side, where this path leads directly along the Bille.
The allotment gardeners have always had to worry about their clods: in 1957 a large part of the island was designated as industrial reserve areas. In 1981 the allotment gardens were to give way to a thousand apartments. The Billerhuder Insel wanted to use the “Upstream to Elbe and Bille” concept from 2014 for commercial and residential construction. All of this has been rejected so far, but the desire is still there. Olaf Scholz, who in 2017 gave the garden colony a protection as long as he had government responsibility, is now in Berlin.
