In 1830 a banquet was given in the Ludwigshöhle in honor of Ludwig I, King of Bavaria. The cave was named Ludwigshöhle in his honor.

The Ludwigshöhle is one of the largest and at the same time the easiest to negotiate caves in Franconian Switzerland. The large cave ruin is located in the Ahorntal, opposite the Sophienhöhle. If you choose the car park in the Ahorntal to visit the Sophienhöhle, you can reach it via the stream with a footpath of a little more than 50 meters.
You climb slightly from the valley floor and stand in the cave portal, the large cave area runs across, with a short continuation straight ahead, a bulge on the right at the back and a second portal to the left, through which another hiking trail leads out. It is fair to say that a hiking trail leads through this cave.
The cave has been used for centuries and massive changes have been made to the cave floor. Today's cave floor, with the terraced slope in the portal, the footpath, the flat floor in the cave and of course the wooden railings, is exclusively due to human influence. The cave was used for celebrations and hunting parties and was modified for this purpose. Unfortunately, bones and archaeological finds were simply carelessly thrown aside. And even if many finds are still to be suspected in the sediments, they are of little scientific interest because they are completely detached from the association.

Cave with side niches and two entrances. A small entrance and a large passage through which you can see the chapel opposite. Inside there is a memorial plaque and old fireplace. The cave looks a bit like a cathedral, dark and big.

Incredibly impressive cave in the forest. You can park at the Sophienhöhle car park and walk over the wooden walkway, then up a few steps. Well worth seeing, you just have to see it.
