The large nature reserve Buntsandsteinfelsen in the Rurtal fascinates with its imposing, reddish rocks with unique rock heads and rocky outcrops. This unique landscape, located on the northern edge of the Eifel, with the red-hot rocks in the sunlight, is protected as a nature reserve regionally by the species living in it, as well as being protected as a Natura 2000 site and bird sanctuary throughout the EU. Here in Nideggen, the Rhenish Slate Mountains appear together with the red rock formations of the Buntsandstein. Buntsandstein, a mixture of red-black gravel and shiny sand, was created 220 million years ago.

The seven rock groups of the Christinenley draw their scenic charm, together with the play of colors of the oak and beech forest and the pine forest in the plateau area, from the variety of rugged and smooth surfaces of the rock towers and walls.
