Neuenfels castle ruins (595 m) From the viewing platform of the Neuenfels ruins, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the foothills, the Rhine valley, the Kaiserstuhl and the Vosges. Neuenfels Castle was built in 1250 and was the seat and property of the "Von Neuenfels" knight family until the 16th century. In 1538 the last knight sold his property for lack of money, but kept the castle. However, the knightly family suffered a terrible fate: in 1540, it is mentioned in a camp book, the knight, his wife, daughter and the rest of the servants were murdered. The killer was never found. The castle then fell into disrepair. An information board quotes the extract from the stock book.
