      The dock is not far from the chateau. After a few minutes walk you are right in front of the chateau.
      Tip: from the landing stage you have a great view of the chateau. Great for taking pictures 😉

                  Chillon Castle is one of the most visited castles in Europe. It is located on a rocky island in Lake Geneva, near Montreux, Switzerland. It was first mentioned in 1150, but may have been built earlier, as archaeological evidence suggests the site was used by the Romans and even Bronze Age people.

                  The castle was captured by Swiss forces from Bern in 1536 and then used as a prison and weapons depot. It also inspired many writers and artists, such as Lord Byron, who wrote a poem about one of the castle's prisoners, François Bonivard.

                  The castle is now a museum, where you can explore its 42 rooms and learn about its history and culture. You can also admire the breathtaking views of the lake and mountains from the windows and courtyards of the castle.

                      Chillon Castle is a medieval moated castle. Thanks to its striking position on Lake Geneva against the impressive mountain backdrop of the Vaud Alps and the Chablais Alps and with its picturesque and well-preserved group of buildings, the monument has been one of the most popular landscape images in western Switzerland since the 18th century. In 2013, Chillon Castle recorded 349,000 visitors and in 2019 over 430,000 visitors. This makes it the most visited historical building in Switzerland.

                      The castle stands on the rocky island of Île de Chillon on the eastern shore of Lake Geneva, which is only separated from the lake shore by a ditch a few meters wide. The island, which was formed during the ice ages by the Rhone glacier on the edge of the lake basin, is 120 meters long and up to 48 meters wide and has an area of around 5070 m². This makes it the largest of the seven islands in Lake Geneva.[9] The limestone rock forms a flat hill in front of the mountain promontory, which protrudes approximately eight meters above the surface of the lake in the middle of the castle. On the western side, the rock in front of the castle walls drops very steeply deep into the lake.
