On the outskirts of the Wiegersdorf district is the Ilgenborn, which brings up to 14,000 liters of water to the surface every day.
The history of the Ilgenborn goes back to the 15th century. This spring used to feed the residents of the area with its bubbling water. Even in dry seasons, the source never runs dry. Because of its excellent quality, many Ilfeld people still get their drinking water from this source today.
The ancient natural monument almost fell into oblivion, but in 1938 the Ilgenborn was extensively renovated by some nature lovers and the surroundings redesigned.
