    2019 - Renovation and new construction.
    Large parts of the castle have already been demolished. The rest is abandoned.

    We'll see what's being built here opposite the Protestant church on the Staigbrücke. Apparently, it's the retirement home again.

    It's now 2025, and so far, nothing more has happened than demolishing the annexes and securing the site.

        The former castle of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach has unfortunately been falling into disrepair for 6 years now.

        It would be sad if the Margrave's oldest castle had to be demolished. Interesting and varied history, owned by the painter Otto Fikentscher from the end of the 19th century until the Second World War - and home to many painters. The open workshops and events at the time contributed significantly to Grötzingen's reputation as a "painters' village".

        Completely renovated in 1962, most recently used as a senior citizens' residence for around 20 years. Currently owned by a French nursing home operator.

          Augustenburg Castle is a former castle of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach in Karlsruhe's Grötzingen district. The formerly connected castle garden and the Augustenberg chamber estate now house the Augustenberg Agricultural Technology Center. Until the end of 2017, a retirement home with approx. 115 care places was operated in Augustenburg Castle, which is to move in again after the renovation with demolition and new construction of the modern wing. The castle is currently a major construction site.

            The castle, formerly owned by the Margraves of Baden-Durlach, now houses a senior citizens' center, as well as the Agricultural Technology Center Augustenberg in the adjoining castle garden.

              The history of the stately castle Augustenburg goes back to the 16th century. At that time, Margrave Christoph I had an old benefice house converted into a pleasure palace. Charles II built the three-winged complex in 1576, which Augusta Maria, who later gave its name, rebuilt and renovated in 1699. At the end of the 19th century, after Otto Fikentscher bought the castle, other painters from the Grötzingen artist colony lived here for a time, such as Gustav Kampmann, Karl Biese and Franz Hein. Since 1978, after extensive renovation and the new construction of the side wings, the castle has been used as a senior citizens' residence.

                  Unfortunately the castle is still under construction. Especially the back and side of the lock still looks very ugly. The senior residence no longer exists. The site fence still exists and there is a site container in the yard. Hopefully there will be construction progress soon.
