Klausen offers typical South Tyrolean small town flair with its romantic winding streets in the heart of the Eisacktal. Klausen has around 4,600 inhabitants and is located at 523 meters above sea level - the medieval town is towered over by the Säbener Klosterberg, one of the oldest places of pilgrimage in Tyrol.

Dürerstadt”, that's what the small town is called and rightly so. Several centuries ago, there was a lively artistic life here - Albrecht Dürer also stopped here on his trip to Italy in 1494 and portrayed the pretty small town from the panoramic square on today's "Dürerstein". Incidentally, in 2002, the crenellated facades, pretty bay windows, picturesque alleys and the dainty inn signs made Klausen one of the most beautiful old towns in Italy.
The old town stretches to the left and right of the former Brennerstrasse, with a distinction being made between the upper town and the lower town. The narrow Stadtgasse widens at Kirchplatz and Tinneplatz. The other districts are called Griesbruck, Frag and Leitach. The parish church of St. Andrew and a visit to the Loreto treasure in the city museum are also worthwhile.
