Despite its name, the "Blue Lake" in the Schwerter Forest north of the Freischütz restaurant is mostly green with algae and reflections of the beech trees that densely surround this remnant of a former quarry that was in use from 30 years to 1873. The abandoned excavation has since been filled with water and sediment. The rocks were mainly used to stabilize the many small coal mines that were dug here by early miners.
