Infante Dom Henrique de Avis, better known as Henry the Navigator, was a central figure in the 15th century Portuguese Age of Discovery. Its connection with Sagres is due to the creation of the Sagres School, a pioneering center for the study of nautical sciences, although the existence of this school is today considered a myth.
