The oldest part of the enormous Church of St. Boniface was built around the year 1000. The rest was completed in three further construction phases. The church is one of the most important works of Romanesque architecture in Westphalia.

The parish church of St. Bonifatius in Freckendorf was until 1811 the church of the monastery of canons founded in 856. The mighty west tower group and the flanking towers in the east of the former collegiate church still determine the townscape today. The collegiate church forms the center of Freckenhorst. The Romanesque baptismal font and the crypt with the tomb of Geva are particularly worth seeing. The abbey chamber contains treasures from the history of the abbey and the church.
