"... The Wupper dam is a process water dam. It is used to protect against flooding and to raise the low water level in the Wupper. In the winter months, part of the storage volume - the so-called flood protection area - is kept free in order to be able to absorb the rainfalls that often occur The flood protection area of the Wupper dam is 9.9 million m3. The Bever, Lingese and Brucher dams offer a total of 9.5 million m3 of flood protection area.
Four of the total of five pre-dams of the Wupper dam (Wupper, Wiebach, Dörpe, Feldbach and Lenneper Bach pre-dams) fulfill not only water management but also ecological tasks. They provide a habitat for numerous animal and plant species.
The Wupper Dam, with its recreational opportunities, is an attraction for visitors from the entire region. Numerous hiking trails, rest areas, holiday homes and a marina for sailing and rowing boats allow recreation, sport and play for the whole family. ... "
