You can enjoy nature on a hike in the beautiful heathland. The view over the heather flowers to the sea is unique, which should not be missed on a holiday on Sylt. About half of all heathlands in Schleswig-Holstein can be found on Sylt. There are three main types of heath growing in the Braderuper Heath. From April to May the crowberry blooms here, from July the bell heather and in late summer the heather. In addition to numerous endangered animal species, some plants are also on the red list of endangered species.

About half of all of Schleswig-Holstein's heathland can be found on Sylt. Mainly three types of heather grow in the Braderuper Heide. Half of the Schleswig-Holstein heathland grows on Sylt. There is a great deal of public interest that it be preserved. One type of care is the so-called Heidebrennen. The heather is burned against the wind, so that it tends to glow and burn deep down. The Heidebrennen should take place about every 10 years. Because if it is not cared for, it threatens to become overgrown. The wild rose would also spread radically and displace the heather.
