The classicist guard house was built in 1772 on the bank of the Great Wall Hole. It was designed by the architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff. There has always been a stove on the ground floor of the house, otherwise equipment for flood protection was stored here. The elegant upper floor with the stucco-profiled walls served Prince Franz for temporary accommodation. From here he enjoyed the view over the water in a westerly direction towards the castle and St. Peter's Church.

In the meantime (08/2021) overnight stays / living in the historical building in the middle of nature directly on the Elbwall - for 2 to 4 people - from 2 nights - are offered.

The Red Wall Guard House was renovated in 2005/2006. It is equipped with a small kitchen, bathtub and toilet in the basement and a living room and bedroom on the upper floor. Bookings can be made via the “Zum Stein” ring hotel, which is around 800 meters away.

The wall guard houses built between 1770 and 1800 were included in the landscape design.

Today they are the gems on the cycling and hiking trails of the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz, which is a World Heritage Site.
