The cross was erected in 1933 as a symbol of peace at the murder show.

As early as 1931, on the occasion of the premiere of the home game "D Schwed im Land" by the native poet and village chronicler Paul Blättel, there was talk of a cross for the first time. The murder plays a big role in the play: For fear of the revenge of a Swedish servant standing captain, an Elzer, who had been expelled some years earlier with his mother of the village, flee the inhabitants of Elz in the forest. Here they are tracked down by the Swedes, there is a bloodbath. The Swedish captain can not prevent it, he appears too late at the scene. He collapses at the sight of his murdered old friends. He breaks his sword and exchanges it with the cross, the sign of peace.
