South-west of the Austrian-Italian Birnlücke border pass in the area of the Rieserferner-Ahrn nature park, this refuge is the northernmost in South Tyrol. The valley is Kasern.

Built in 1900, the Birnlückenhütte is perfectly suited as a starting point for the ascent of the Dreiherrenspitze (3,499 m) as well as for scenic hut hikes.

The tour along the Lausitzer Höhenweg to the Krimmler Tauern, past the non-managed Neugersdorfer Hütte, from where you can descend to the Krimmler Achental, the Zillertal or to Kasern in the back Ahrntal Valley, is also impressive.

The hut can also be reached by mountain bike, touring skis or snowshoes. A fantastic, but very challenging high tour with Gletscherüberschreitung is about those on the Dreiherrenspitze (3,499 m) in the Venediger group.

The hut is located on a promontory and offers visitors a magnificent view of the Ahrntal valley, the Großvenediger group and the entire chain of the Zillertal Alps.

The Birnlücken hut is located at 2441 m above sea level, southwest of the Austrian-Italian border pass Birnlücke (west of the Grossvenediger) on the Italian side in South Tyrol. It is located in the area of the Rieserferner-Ahrn Nature Park. Since it can only be reached via very steep and narrow paths, it is supplied with helicopters.
