The Philippuskirche was built in the style of a neo-Romanesque basilica between 1924 and 1927. The plans come from the architect Christian Ruck from Nuremberg. The “pupils” of the educational institution and the young brothers did most of the church building. Around 12,000 sandstone blocks were broken by hand in our own quarry and 210 trees were felled.

In 1971 the church underwent a comprehensive redesign by the architect Johannes Conrad. The altar moves into the middle of the chancel and the benches are replaced by chairs.

The altarpiece was designed by the Munich painter Annemarie Naegelsbach. It combines the story of the calling of the seven almoners with Jesus' parable of the seven works of mercy. Philip, one of the seven deacons, is the namesake of the church. It stands in the connection between proclamation and practical action as the basis for diaconal action.

The conversion of the former crypt of the Philippus Church was completed in 2015. The project was awarded to the Nuremberg sculptor Meide Büdel in an artist competition in 2013. The day chapel and the forecourt of the day chapel with the fountain are used for burials, but also invite people to linger in everyday life.
