3.2 miles long and 16 meters high is the Hohe Ufer between Wustrow and Ahrenshoop on the peninsula Fischland-Darß-Zingst.

An uptight moraine, created by the Scandinavian ice more than 10,000 years ago and shaped by the sea surf. This continues to provide for a steady change of the so-called active cliff. Up to five meters can be the annual coastal demolition. During a walk beneath the cliff, nesting shore swallows can be observed in the high steep slope. The high shore invites you to hike on foot or by bike and in clear weather you can even see the Danish mainland from here. The narrow footpath directly on the steep coast is very varied. It leads through small forest areas, past sea buckthorn bushes and hedge roses, the typical vegetation of the area.

At this point on the cliff you can still find several bunker remains reminiscent of the GDR era. Some of them even protrude directly from the cliffs. The bunkers were previously used as observation stations, but today the underground systems are filled in and can no longer be accessed.

However, the numerous small holes that you also see in the cliffs have nothing to do with the bunkers. These are nesting places for the many thousands of sand martins, which feel safe in the clayey wall while breeding. But that doesn't last, because the rough wind and the Baltic Sea waves gnaw at the cliffs. It is estimated that around 70 meters have been washed away in the last century.

Constant change means you can always gain new impressions. Years ago you could walk to Ahrenshoop or use the stairs up to the riverside path. Now it ends at the former bunker.
