Gate tower of the late medieval city fortifications made of sandstone blocks from 1425–1438. The Zeiler Witches Documentation Center is located here. Today it is assumed that in Zeil am Main between 1616 and 1631 more than 400 people were burned as witches and sorcerers.

Simply called the "City Tower" by the Zeil residents, the former Upper Gate Tower has also been referred to as the "Witches' Tower" since the opening of the Witches' Documentation Center. In fact, it also served as a dungeon during the rampant witch hunts in the first half of the 17th century.

It was built in the first half of the 15th century, along with the city wall.

The characteristic slate-roofed Baroque onion dome with its octagonal "lantern" was not added until 1725.

Until the end of the 19th century, the tower served as a watchtower, even after the associated gate had long since been torn down. Today you can still visit the former watchmaker's room, which affords a wide view of the Main Valley.
