A naval reconnaissance unit has been located here since the 1950s, which was to provide telecommunications information to the nearby coast of the former GDR. The first tower was built in 1958 and continued to operate until 1972 (now a hotel). Since this tower became too small, a new one replaced the old one in 1972.
The new tower was extremely secure. E.g. with several rows of fences and guard dogs.

The over 80-meter-high concrete block between Pelzerhaken and Rettin is an eye-catcher, a monument and a piece of history. The listening tower was a radio tower from 1964 to 1992 and was used by the navy and civilian units of the federal government. Their job: to observe the enemy in the east. Entry prohibited! The area is well secured. Only a few people have a key. The men from the construction yard store stones and bars outside.
On the ground floor, museum exhibits lie and rot. From above, the electronic hum of a telecommunications company's equipment roars.
Otherwise, there is silence. Hundreds of dead flies lie on the floor. The triple-glazed windows are closed. "They have no handles, could never be opened, but could always be darkened."
