Betancuria was founded in 1404 and served as the island's capital from then until 1834. Surrounded by mountains, this picturesque town lies in a valley in the interior of Fuerteventura, along the wonderful FV-30 mountain road. Beautiful white houses, several great restaurants and bars, and the Church of Santa Maria de Betancuria invite you to a pleasant stay. It's an absolute must-see when visiting the island.

Betancuria is a beautiful and cozy little town where you can enjoy a break in a cafeteria with a delicious cake.
Betancuria was founded in 1404 by the conqueror Jean de Béthencourt, hence its name. Since then it has been the capital and center of government of the island.
However, in 1834 Betancuria was replaced by Antigua, and since 1860 Puerto de Cabras, current Puerto del Rosario, has been the capital of the island.
