In the old sawmill are the biological station of the district of Steinfurt and the nature protection center sawmill of the ANTL. The ANTL runs a farm shop here, where the meat from the Bentheim sheep and fruit juice can be purchased from the orchards. The Bentheim sheep belong to the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Naturschutz Tecklenburger Land (ANTL) and move with a shepherdess on the meadows and limestone grasslands between Brochterbek and Lienen and maintain landscapes. The Bentheim sheep is one of the endangered livestock breeds.
