The Kemnader See, built in 1979, is the youngest of the four Ruhr reservoirs and is located in the city triangle between Witten, Bochum and Hattingen. It has developed into one of the largest and most attractive leisure areas in the Ruhr area.
A marina, boat rentals, the Heveney leisure pool, a beach volleyball hall, a golf course, an illuminated inline skating rink and much more invite walkers, cyclists and inline skaters to become active themselves. Various restaurants, ice cream vans, a beach bar, a mini golf course and playgrounds round off the perfect leisure time fun.
The longest circular route around Lake Kemnade leads over the Lake Bridge and is around 10 km. The shortest route runs under the motorway bridge and is about 8.3 km. The Stiepel village church, Blankenstein Castle, the Katzenstein nature reserve and the historic district of Witten-Herbede are close to the lake.
The excursion boat MS Schwalbe II offers trips on the Ruhr from Witten-Bommern to Lake Kemnade. The MS Kemnade takes over the excursion traffic on Lake Kemnade.
