Between Weetzen and Vörie lies the largest wetland in terms of area, which serves to protect birds. The stacking ponds were created as the former settling basin of the sugar factory in Weetzen. The local conservation association and the Hanover region acquired 6.5 hectares of water and meadows after the closure of the factory and were able to create and maintain a retreat for protected animal and plant species.
