The light in Bodø, surrounded by sea and fjord, changes constantly with the wind and weather. And amazingly, both the midnight sun and the northern lights can be seen from here. Bodø is the capital of Nordland County and lies north of the Arctic Circle. The midnight sun is visible here from June 2nd to July 10th. Due to terrestrial refraction, there is no real polar night in Bodø. However, due to the mountains south of the city, the sun cannot be seen from the city from early December to early January. The monthly average number of hours of sunshine in Bodø reaches its peak in June with 221 hours.
