Of the ramparts of the town of Bourg, there are two ruins of gates at the two ends of the town: one called the Porte du Port overlooks the quays of the Gironde; the other, which defended the road going towards Blaye, kept the name of this last town. The Port Gate is the last vestige of the ramparts built in the 13th century to protect the city and which, from that time until the end of the 16th century, suffered ten sieges whose dates are recalled on a commemorative plaque.
