The fountain is in triangular shape with twenty-one references to the history of the Schildbürger. On the bell is the year 1598 as an allusion to the year of publication of the Schildbürgerbuches. More detailed description can be found in the Schildbürgermuseum.

With the large equilateral triangle, the fountain basin symbolizes the so-called Meißnian triangle (Latin: triangle), which is formed by the rivers Elbe, Saale and Eger and represents the former margraviate of Meißen.
The town of Schildau is located in this area. Officially referred to as Schilda in the 19th century, it is still called “Schilde” in dialect to this day. The original Schildbürgerbuch from 1598 often describes the setting of the stories as “Schilde in Misnopotamia”, translated into German as “Shields in the Meißner Flussland”.
