The Hansa-Gymnasium is located directly on the Sund Promenade on the edge of Stralsund's Old Town. The listed brick building was inaugurated in 1913 as a lyceum.

The Hansa-Gymnasium Stralsund is one of the oldest schools in the region. The brick building, which is now a listed building, was officially inaugurated as the Lyceum in 1913, right on the Sund promenade on the edge of the World Heritage Old Town. The grammar school is conveniently located; in its neighborhood there are the theater, the OZEANEUM, the maritime museum and the cultural history museum, the city library and the city archive.
The old building was renovated and reconstructed in the 2000/2001 school year. In connection with the modern extension building, a harmonious ensemble was created in which the ambience of the listed old brick building was successfully preserved and this was combined with a modern specialist wing for the natural sciences.

The school building of today's Hansa School was opened on December 22nd, 1913 as a girls' secondary school after the foundation stone for this building was laid on September 18th, 1911.
The Hansa-Gymnasium is housed in a three-story brick building that stands out architecturally on the banks of the Strelasund at the beginning of a waterfront promenade. It was built in Art Nouveau with neo-Gothic elements.

Characteristic features are the stair towers with copper roofs and an observation tower as well as an impressive main entrance. Round arched, pointed arched and rectangular windows alternate on each floor.

The building is a historical monument. It is located in the core area of the “Historic Old Towns of Stralsund and Wismar” urban area, which is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Stralsund with number 190.
