The Astino Monastery stands in the heart of the Astino valley within the Bergamo Hills Park. Originally founded between the 11th and 12th centuries, it was restored and reopened in 2015. It is open to the public during the summer season.

The Astino Valley is surrounded to the east by the Benaglia hill, to the north by San Sebastiano and the Bastia and San Vigilio hills and to the west by the hill where Villa Bagnada and the Presati Castle stand.
In this area you can undertake various routes that guarantee interesting excursions in nature and among the monuments, towards Città Alta, Sudorno or the Allegrezza forest.

The monastery of Astino was founded in 1107, the year in which the purchase of lands by some notables of Bergamo is documented.
The Vallombrosana Congregation, of Tuscan origin, with the charismatic figure of its founder San Giovanni Gualberto, had fought forcefully for the return of the Church to evangelical purity.
The spread of the Vallombrosans in Northern Italy in the 12th century with the foundation of 17 monasteries was driven by this reforming spirit.
