Former town of Bodie, where mercury was quarried and processed in a mine and large mill. The wooden buildings are in very good shape and it feels like you are back in the time of the wild west when strolling through the roads. The mill is open for visit.
Today's ghost town emerged after 1859 as a gold mining settlement and was abandoned in the 1930s. The dry climatic conditions and the altitude (2,500m) have ensured that the buildings are subject to little decay and that many things are very well preserved.
