Vaals is not mentioned in documents before 1041, Vaalsbroek only in 1420. In the Holy Roman Empire belonged in a swampy area on the creek Gau located country estate to the Duchy of Limburg and was owned by various noble families such as van Birgel, van Echtersheim or van Eys- Beusdal, which had it managed by a court community of Schöffen - the so-called Laatbank.
In 1792, the cloth manufacturer of Clermont and his wife Maria Elisabeth Sophia Emminghaus buy the estate. Vaalsbroek was the country estate of the family of Clermont. In the pasture landscape in the south of the estate Vaalsbroek is the mausoleum built and fenced in 1768 by Moretti.

Here rest the remains of Johann Arnold of Clermont and other family members. During the last renovation of the estate, the coats of arms of the families of Clermont and Emminghaus were added to the pawn of the court to the eternal memory of the former owner. Today, the building serves as a hotel. The surrounding gardens are worth a visit.

Kasteel Vaalsbroek in Vaals is a beautifully situated and not very cheap hotel on an 18 ha property in the picturesque Limburg hill country.
The German national team resided there during the European Football Championship 2016. In the "Kaastel Vaalsbroek", the 1761-built Schlösschen, the DFB took 80 of the 130 rooms of the four-star hotel.
