After Celtic and Roman settlements, the area around Ölbronn and Dürrn became Alemannic in the 3rd century and Frankish in the 5th century.
It is possible that Ölbronn is a planned, high-medieval successor settlement to Mühlhausen, which had left. This could explain the anger-like settlement, which is rare for the region.
In 1504, the Duchy of Württemberg conquered the Maulbronn monastery territory, to which Ölbronn, along with numerous other villages, continued to belong.
Ölbronn was almost completely destroyed in 1622 during the Thirty Years' War.
Ölbronn has belonged to the district of Vaihingen since 1938.

In the center of Ölbronn stands the beautiful church, surrounded by half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. The settlement was mentioned in documents in 1244 and forms with the village Dürrn a municipality. In the Thirty Years War Ölbronn was almost completely destroyed, only a building in the Upper Steinbeisstraße 32 has survived.
