Overlooking the River Dee, Chester Castle was an important stronghold during the Medieval era. The 11th-century castle has witnessed many battles and executions: Richard II, Eleanor Cobham and John Neville were all imprisoned here. Today, the castle is surrounded by various interesting neoclassical buildings such as the Crown Courts and military museum.
