The exposed location on the south coast of Als on the Flensburg Fjord on a hill is already a highlight when hiking on the coast. In good weather you have an excellent view. Beacon can be climbed (entry 20kr) - the last door is quite narrow and low.

The Kegnæs lighthouse towers high above the dam to the Kegnæs peninsula. From the lighthouse you can enjoy the view of the Broagerland peninsula, Germany, the South Funen Islands, Ærø and Langeland.

The first lighthouse on Kegnæs was built in 1845 and is the only one in the area that was built before the area came under German rule in 1864.

The original lighthouse is 9 meters high and square. The lighthouse is built of bricks and as an extension to the house of the lighthouse keeper and equipped with a lens. Oil is mentioned as the drive in 1854 and the lighthouse has a focus height of 23 meters.

The lighthouse as we know it today is built in 1896. This lighthouse is also built of bricks, but is 18 meters high and round, with a focus height of 32 meters. Nothing is mentioned as the drive and we can only assume that oil is still used. The original lighthouse is not used and therefore demolished.

From 1920 to 1947 petroleum and an incandescent lamp were used, after which the lighthouse was switched to electricity and incandescent lamps.

During the Second World War, Denmark was occupied by Germany and the Kegnæs lighthouse is one of the places guarded by German soldiers. In the period (1940-45) the lighthouse was only switched on when German ships were supposed to pass.

Today the lighthouse and the associated buildings belong to the Sønderborg municipality. The lighthouse has been repaired and set up as a small mini-museum, which shows the history of the lighthouse with glass showcases. If it is not foggy or stormy, you can enjoy the 360 ° view from the lighthouse - for free!

The house to the left of the lighthouse is provided free of charge for Denmark's war veterans for recreation. The right is privately owned. Very nice owner.
The lighthouse is automatically locked at 19:00. Keeps you racing fast when you're up !;)
