In front of the Cadolzburg there was a planned market settlement early on - around 1300 - which was increasingly fortified in the centuries that followed. Unfortunately, almost all the houses burned down during the Thirty Years' War and were rebuilt over decades of work, which can be easily understood from the dates on the houses. Even today, the representative half-timbered gables mostly face the market square and testify to the modest wealth of their builders.
