The first lookout tower on the Hocheck was built in 1881 by the owner of the small Mariazell as Franciska-Warte (opening: 10 July 1881) and renewed in 1897 and 1923. From 1927 the lookout tower served as a triangulation point. At the beginning of the 1960s, the tower was handed over by the Surveying Office of the ÖTK section Triestingtal, which dismantled the tower. In the years 1973/74, the control room was rebuilt and named after the longtime chairman of the ÖTK section Triestingtal and honorary member Franz Meyringer (1901-1980).

The Hocheck
The Hocheck, located on the border between the Alps and the Vienna Woods, is at 1037m the last 1000 of the pre-Alps. From the observation tower at the summit, there is a comprehensive panoramic view, from the Hochwechsel over Schneeberg, Rax, the Mariazeller mountains, the Dunkelsteiner forest, the Tullnerfeld, and Vienna to the Leithagebirge, on clear days you can see the Neusiedlersee. The valley towns of Altenmarkt, Taßhof, Kaumberg and Furth are the starting point for numerous hikes.
