    The border triangle has a very special flair. With a few steps you can cross the respective border and "get a foothold" in Germany, the Czech Republic or Austria.

    If you want to take a break and have a snack, you can do so on the huge stone table.

            The cross-border Tripp from the Bavarian into the Bohemian Forest is something special. The Czechs have made every effort to make this area accessible after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
            Thus, one is able to walk without border control in a great, unspoiled landscape.

                Dreiländereck Germany - Czech Republic - Austria

                Strictly speaking, this is the geographical point on which the three borders of Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria meet. It is located near the 1,363 m high Bavarian Plöckenstein and the 1,333 high three-seater chair at the so-called triangular mark on a 1,320 m high saddle.

                            The border triangle, a geographical point where the three borders of Germany, the Czech Republic and Austria meet, is a popular destination for hikers and walkers. It is easy to reach from the Dreisessel car park, about 3 km away, via the partially blocked ridge. It is best to go to the Dreiecksmark early, as it gets quite busy from midday onwards.

                                    This is where three countries meet. The signs still warn that you are at the border, which it was better not to cross earlier. The boundary stone is aligned in three directions and shows the corresponding country or state. There is also a large table for a break right on the border.

                                              The Bavarian Forest, Bohemian Forest area (also called Sumava) is the largest contiguous forest area in Europe. It is also the Central European watershed.
                                              Around 600 million years ago, parts of the already solid earth's crust were repeatedly torn open by liquid rock masses and solidified on the earth's surface, but were repeatedly broken through, changed and folded.
                                              This resulted in the geological peculiarity - called “pile”. It is a fault line in the mountains that runs from the Upper Palatinate for 150 km across the Bavarian Forest to the Austrian Mühlviertel. 60 million years ago, when the folding of the Alps began, parts of the Bavarian Forest were uplifted along these fault lines
                                              “It’s winter here for three quarters of the year and cold for a quarter of the year,” goes an old folk saying. The summer tourist season is only from June to September, because in the “Woid is koid” (it is cold in the forest). In the area around Waldhäuser (National Park) people speak of “Bavarian Siberia”. The gust of wind that comes from the north and freezes all life is legendary. In fact, this means that it is colder in the Bavarian Forest than in the Alps. Climate change doesn’t stop here either. The best time for hiking is the very sunny autumn, when the “forest is on fire”.
