The Lauterbacher Strolch (since 1898)
The tramp is an integral part of the history and cityscape of Lauterbach. The following is a brief history of the Lauterbacher Strolch (song):
Once upon a time there was a young hosiery man who set off on foot from southern Germany to explore the world. When winter came, he found work and accommodation in Lauterbach with a master stocking maker. The following spring he set off again, but forgot to pack the well-known and fateful stocking. Since he obviously liked it very much in the town of Lauterbach, he kept telling his later traveling companion, a traveling musician, about beautiful Lauterbach and the forgotten stocking. Of course, he made a song out of it, which both gave their best everywhere. The Lauterbach song was born.

I lost my stocking in Lauterbach
and I won't go home without a stocking.
So I'm going back to Lauterbach right away
and put my stocking on my leg.

Made of bronze by the sculptor Knud Knudsen from Bad Nauheim, erected in the Lauter river bed and presented to the public on April 30, 2005, it depicts the Lauterbach tramp, a landmark created in 1905.
The monument shows a curly-haired boy who is walking with an umbrella but one bare foot. The "Strolch" owes its origin to the Lauterbacher stocking song ("I lost my stocking in Lauterbach"). The picture was designed by the Frankfurt painter Julius Siemsen and reworked by Schulz in 1904. It was initially called Lauterbacher Junge. Today, cheese products are sold with this image and the title The Little Tramp.
"Lauterbacher Strolch" was also the brand name and trademark of the first German Camembert, which used to be made in Lauterbach.
