The city of Lauenburg is divided. The upper town with its highlight the castle and the picturesque lower town. In Lauenburg begins the Elbe-Lübeck Canal, an old waterway from the Hanseatic period. She made the transport of goods to Lübeck much safer. Lauenburg is a boatman town. When you come from the south, the shipyard always strikes me first. It is not only shipbuilding, but also for repairs of barges, up to a certain size, of importance. The steamboat, the Kaiser Wilhelm, one of the landmarks of Lauenburg.

The lower town, tourist magnet, is attached to the Geerecken and is threatened at every flood. Here is a bottleneck and the flood can reach up to 10 m.

Hunnenburg is a small alley, not a castle. Where the name comes from does not even know the Lauenburgers. It is an alley that runs parallel from the Alter Markt to Elbstrasse and most tourists do not know it. The access from the Elbstrasse runs over a staircase that rarely perceives one.

Beautifully restored houses with gardens that truly unfold their splendor in spring and summer.

Perhaps the residents are happy that most tourists do not notice them. So it may remain a hidden gem.

Anyone who walks down the Elbstrasse passes this house and admires the richly decorated framework. The Meningsche Haus, named after its former owners, is the oldest burgher's house in Lauenburg, dating back to 1573. It used to be a barber, today is an ice cream parlor, which is popular in the summer.
