Far and wide! What could be nicer? Sitting by a stream! Birds chirping! No cars, just a gentle breeze, delicious cakes from the in-house bakery, coffees, and finally, after paying, a dip in the Kneipp pool! Great! 👍👍👍👍👍

The Kickelhahnblick is a lookout point near the Kickelhahn, an 861-meter-high mountain in the Thuringian Forest. From there, you have impressive views of the surrounding landscape, especially Ilmenau and the region's forested hills. The Kickelhahn itself is known for its historic observation tower and the Goethehäuschen (Goethe House), where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once wrote his famous poem "Wanderer's Night Song."

The Swedish hut is no longer there...it's a very steep descent and a tight turn from Elgersburg. On a mountain bike, I think it's mostly a push-along section.

The Neue Gehlberger Hütte is located on the 978-meter-high Schneekopf mountain and is the highest-altitude serviced hut in Thuringia. It offers a cozy hiking hostel with shared rooms and a restaurant serving traditional Thuringian cuisine. Opening Hours: The restaurant is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – longer in summer. Breakfast for guests is served from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
