Valence-d'Agen is a municipality of 5,286 inhabitants located in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region. In addition to the ancient wash houses, the church of Notre-Dame, in neo-Renaissance style, which dates back to 1902, is worthy of note; inside, a beautiful Madonna and Child in gilded wood and a Via Crucis in ceramic.

Lovely town, best to be near the water

Saint-Maurin is located in the hollow of a green valley where the Escorneboeuf flows. To see: its half-timbered houses, its market hall, the remains of the Benedictine abbey from the 11th and 12th centuries and its abbey castle built in 1500.

The construction of Saint-Maurin Abbey dates from the end of the 11th century, following its affiliation with Moissac Abbey and the Benedictine order. This large monastic ensemble spread out to numerous surrounding churches and priories, as many possessions which showed its influence and importance within a radius of 20 kilometers. Ruined then restored several times during the Hundred Years' War and during the Wars of Religion, it was during the Revolution that the buildings were sold in batches. Today, you can still admire the choir of the old abbey church as well as two chapels, the cloister, the convent buildings, the abbey castle and its gardens.

This Canal joins the city of Toulouse to Bordeaux and was an important part of the local economy in the past, most notably used to ferry wine to the port of Bordeaux for shipping.

View of the small port of Valence d'Agen, on the other side of the canal, on the V80 towards Agen or Moissac. The bastide is worth the little detour!

This small footbridge between the Canal lateral to the Garonne and the Canal de Golfech allows you to reach the nautical stopover of Malause. The latter is equipped with tables and a small kiosk, around a small pond.
