The 32-meter-high Red Tower, a former defense and watchtower, is a remnant of the Pulsnitz city gate and has 117 steps. As the name suggests, this street leads to the town of Pulsnitz, 12 km away. City gates were particularly vulnerable in times of war. Therefore, the defenders attempted to protect them with additional walls and towers. In an emergency, many archers could take up positions on it. The tower also served as a municipal prison for the higher ranks. The city bailiffs imprisoned criminals from the lower classes in the town hall prison. The four-aisled St. Mary's Church is one of the most important late Gothic hall churches in Saxony. Construction began around 1400 and was completed around 1480. It boasts rich furnishings of high artistic quality, including the St. Mary's Altar (1519), St. Michael's Altar (1498), and the pulpit (1564) by the Kamenz painter Andreas Dreßler. The Andreas Fountain is located in the southwestern part of the market square. It is probably one of the oldest fountains in the city and has a depth of approximately 10.80 m and a diameter of approximately 2 m. With a water depth of approximately 7 m measured in 2004, this corresponds to a water capacity of approximately 22 m³. Dr. Andreas Günter, once mayor of Kamenz, had the fountain built at his own expense in 1570 out of love for his hometown.
