After the great city fire of 1798, the completely burned-out Gothic predecessor building was demolished. On June 8, 1799, the foundation stone was laid for an initially towerless new building, which was consecrated on April 15, 1805. Schrickell in the amount of 2000 thalers as well as a gift from the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III.
