Thank goodness I only had to spend a few months in Frankenthal. The town stinks of sewer. Monte Scherbelino = hiking up (?) and described as moderately difficult?! Well, as a COPD patient, it's probably moderately difficult... Um, you can easily navigate it in a wheelchair blindfolded. It's a former garbage dump, and depending on the wind direction, you can smell the ugly BASF and see it clearly too – from Monte Scherbelino – lol. From up there, grin, you can also take a great panoramic picture of BASF, ugh. So idyllic, such incredible nature there. What a region. Either the people who live there don't know what nature is or have no idea about "running routes and trails." I stopped my run in the winter because it stank so much there – of chemicals. I wouldn't call it a running route, lol. But okay.

Beautiful square, which of course is also due to the surrounding buildings worth seeing and the nice sculptures in the square.

The monastery was founded in 1119 by Erkenbert. After the consecration in 1125, papal confirmation followed in 1134. In 1163, the monastery was elevated to an abbey and in 1181 the new church was built, which was a three-aisled, unvaulted pillar basilica. The abbey was weakened by the Reformation and was finally abandoned in 1562. Elector Friedrich III then made the area of the former monastery available to Flemish settlers. When Frankenthal was burned down by French troops in 1689, the monastery church was also destroyed. It was then hastily rebuilt and used simultaneously by both denominations. The Reformed used the nave and transept and the Catholics used the choir until they moved into their newly built parish church. Many of the remains of the complex were used as a quarry in the mid-18th century. The town hall was built with stones from the former monastery complex. In 1820, the choir was demolished down to the rood screen, and the choir flank tower was incorporated into the new building of the Twelve Apostles Church. From 1912 to 1914, the nave's surrounding walls were used to build the Erkenbert Museum. The church burned down again in World War II. In 1960, most of the remains of the additions and fittings were removed. Today, the ruins are used for cultural events such as open-air cinema, musical performances and theater events.

From October After swimming, the outdoor pool becomes a nature experience. Many animals can be observed, but the paths with the tall trees and the views of the various lakes also offer a lot of variety.
