Two Merovingian graves on Rubenheimer Straße (in the "Auf dem Gries" area), which are likely part of the village's first cemetery, and the -heim ending indicate a founding in the early Middle Ages (6th/7th century). In 1382, Herbitzheim an der Blies was owned by the Lords of Kirkel.

Herbitzheim is located in the southeast of Saarland, in the heart of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve, just a few kilometers from the German-French border. The Blies River flows through the village. The village borders the districts of Gersheim, Bliesdalheim, Rubenheim, and Walsheim.

Blieskastel is a magnificent baroque town with a special flair. In my opinion, Blieskastel is one of the most beautiful towns in Saarland, along with Saarlouis and St. Wendel.

Blieskastel, a small historic town, has a pleasant pedestrian zone that runs through the old town. This pedestrian zone is mainly located on and around the market square and is surrounded by beautifully preserved historic buildings in the Baroque style. In this part of the town you will find numerous cafes, restaurants, boutiques and local shops offering regional products and traditional food.
