Unfortunately, the path was blocked by a barrier at this point. A bike wouldn't fit next to it. Perhaps we were there at the wrong time, but we had to take the bumpy path back to the intersection. From there, the path is well-maintained and it's a straight line—you can't go wrong.

As idyllic as the 'Etang de Frouasse' appears to the viewer today, the body of water is by no means of natural origin. Its construction was driven by economic interests at the time, as the builders (according to 'Paul_C''s contribution, the Knights Templar, whose exact name was "Poor Knights of Christ and of Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem") could use such a pond either for fish farming or to power mills.

In the heart of the Temple Forest, this road benefits from the welcome shade of the trees in hot weather. The Temple Forest is part of the Forêt d'Orient Regional Natural Park. It takes its name from the Templars. Keep your eyes peeled for a rich array of wildlife.

This part of the dam offers a very beautiful view of the lake and its natural part, we can observe different areas of this very interesting site.

From here you have stunning views of both sides of the lake. A beautiful stretch to walk that gives you the impression of being in the middle of the lake.

The Frouasse pond is a small lake surrounded by century-old trees and rich fauna. There you can admire the view of the water and the reflections of the sky, as well as the singing of birds and frogs. The pond is also a historic site, as it was one of the many ponds created by the Templars in the Middle Ages.

This trail follows the ancient boundaries of the estate that the Templars purchased in 1255 and managed for centuries. Along the route, you will find 11 informative panels in French and English which explain the history and organization of the Templars in this region. You will also see the ruins of the Bazin Lodge, a commandery that they built in the heart of the forest.
