Super beautiful old building

You should definitely go to the cathedral and monastery. We walked along the village street to have a look at the village. Then we go up a staircase on the left (Soonalssteig sign). The monastery was founded in 1074 as an Augustinian canonry. In 1410 it became part of the Duchy of Palatinate-Simmern and developed into the largest landowner between the Moselle and Nahe. In 1564 it became part of the Duchy of Simmern after Palatinate-Simmern was reformed in 1557. Like so many other things in our homeland, it was burned down and destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in its current form by Elector Charles III Philipp of the Palatinate between 1718 and 1722. The mighty towers date from the 12th century.

Nice little chapel, but it was locked

The veneration of St. Anne, the mother of Mary, began quite late in Europe. Initially only widespread in the Eastern Church, her cult only reached the West during the Crusades. Anne does not appear in the biblical accounts. She is first mentioned in the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James from the 2nd century. Her story, as told here, is shaped by her long-held desire to have children, which was only fulfilled very late for her and her husband Joachim, but then in a miraculous way. This made her not only an advocate for all who had such a wish, but also the patron saint of pregnant women and mothers. The small chapel in Belgweiler, built in the first half of the 18th century, is also dedicated to St. Anne. According to local tradition, it goes back to a foundation. It has belonged to the parish of Ravengiersburg since ancient times. The hermits who lived in the neighboring house and provided liturgical care for the chapel also came from there.
