A site in the middle of the forests with an incomparable viewpoint

beautiful walk arriving at Mont St Romain. 360° panorama and very nice little restaurant.

It is necessary to have good shoes to use this part of the GR76. Sometimes slippery if there is humidity. Plan a short stop at “Notre Dame des Roches”.

Very practical path, stony terrain.

This splendid village is home to several remarkable buildings, such as the Cluniac priory (13th century) and the wash houses. A short walk is an opportunity to admire the lava roofs, gallery houses and dry stone walls.

The site contains a prehistoric cave and an underground river. It was once populated by bears and cave lions, earning it the nickname “Cave of 1000 Bears”. The archaeological museum completes the visit with numerous pieces from the period. Reservation is required to visit the cave.

Place offering a very beautiful view of the surrounding area. Be careful though, the end of the climb is not the most pleasant for road bikers. Big holes and many stones!

The village of Blanot is located in a fold of the Mâconnais mountains, at the foot of Mont Saint-Romain, in the northeast of the canton of Cluny. In this splendid village you will discover a Cluniac Priory from the 13th century, old washhouses, bread oven, lava roofs, gallery houses, dry stone walls, and Merovingian tombs from the 7th and 8th centuries.
