Zornheim is the perfect detour if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Mainz. Right at the beginning of the Hiwweltour Zornheimer Berg, the Ruhkreuz awaits with a real surprise. The Frankfurt skyline is very visible on a clear day and shows how close Rheinhessen is to the Rhein-Main area. If you prefer not to see any skyscrapers, just turn around and look at the renatured Selz and the endless Reebenmeer. It is not for nothing that the Ruhkreuz near Zornheim was voted the "Most Beautiful Wine View 2020" this year. Definitely plan a trip to the place. The Lindenplatz with the Three Graces fountain and the church is one of the most beautiful squares in Rheinhessen.

About the fountain: "The fountain was donated by the Peter Eckes family and designed and realized by the sculptor Franz Müller-Steinfurth. Three Graces tread grapes in a pentagonal winepress. They are watched by five bacchantes. These symbolize the five vineyards of Zornheim : Dachgewann, Guldenmorgen, Mönchbäumchen, Pilgerweg and Vogelsang. Day of the inauguration April 26, 2015. Text taken from the information board." (Wikipedia) When I passed there on May 5th, 2023, the preparations for the funeral service for Mr. Eckes were going on.

Fountain of the Three Graces The open space created after the houses were demolished (dilapidated houses on the street side were demolished) encouraged the Peter Eugen Eckes family to donate a well to the community. It should be artistically and creatively sophisticated, but especially reflect the Rhenish-Hessian region. The choice for the realization fell on the Speyer artist Franz Müller-Steinfurth (*9.1.1952 – †18.11.2017). He dealt with Zornheim in detail even before the first meeting with Mr. Eckes. In doing so, he came across the subject of "wine", which was central to Zornheim, and skilfully picked up the five vineyards in the community - Pilgerweg, Dachgewann, Guldenmorgen, Mönchbäumchen and Vogelsang - in a variety of ways. The fountain table and the five bacchantes standing around it are enthroned on pentagonal bases. Three Graces pound the grapes into must in the wine press. The "juice" also emerges from the pentagonal, braided winepress during the water feature and then falls over the fountain table down onto the large basalt stone circle. The varied and playful water feature between bacchantes and graces was created by Franz Müller-Steinfurth. The fountain, which now characterizes the overall picture of the square and has become a central attraction for Zornheim, was realized by the donor family Peter E.
