Located in the heart of the Ardennes, between the municipalities of Bairon and Sauville, Lake Bairon is made up of two ponds separated by a dike, for a total area of 120 hectares. The Old Pond and its reed bed have been transformed into a nature reserve (classified as a natura 2000 zone), and on the other side a water reservoir is intended for nautical activities.

The commune of Montgon has a certain number of locks on the portion of the canal which crosses it. Number 14, bordered by the greenway, offers a nice setting for taking a little break.

The Bairon reservoir is an artificial lake of 120 hectares divided into two parts: one for water sports and leisure activities, the other for the observation and conservation of fauna and flora. You can follow the trails around the lake and enjoy the green landscape, the singing of birds and the peaceful atmosphere. The Moulin de la Tortue, an old corn mill with dam and wheel, is located on the course of the Longwé which marks the border between the municipalities of Voncq and Neuville-Day.

A PLACE OF RELAXATION Hiking trails, playgrounds and a sandy beach invite you to relax and feel well-being. The site welcomes 200,000 people a year, including more than 40,000 swimmers who enjoy the lake. Learn about the most extensive water sports: canoeing, windsurfing... Also enjoy the 5000m2 beach and the pleasures of swimming. This summer there will be supervision every afternoon from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., from June 15 to August 28. Please note that in view of the deterioration of the water quality of Lake Bairon and in consultation with the Regional Health Service, swimming and water activities at Lake Bairon are prohibited until further notice.
